One Day at Disney World

After spending one full day at Disney World, I determined I could probably only handle one day at Disney World. I cannot even count the amount of times I thought, “this would be so hard with all the kids along!” We brought the kids to Disneyland five years ago when there was only four kids, and that wasn’t too bad. But with them being older now, whew, it would be exhausting. We were plum wiped out by the time we left Disney World at ten pm and that was just us!

We spent 12 hours there. After arriving, I was joking about how there’d probably be a tornado (because there was supposed to be rain that day) and lo and behold, I checked my weather app and there was indeed a tornado watch. So that was reason one I was glad the kids weren’t along. I would have been in quite a state of anxiety, trying to figure out what exactly we’d do if a tornado came along.

We started the day with Starbucks, hallelujah! I love Disney starbucks.

Then we went into the Disney shops so I could find a Minnie Mouse ears headband. You can’t go to a Disney park without getting those, it’s all part of the aesthetic.

I could probably spend the whole day at Disney World just drinking coffee, getting food, and wandering around looking at stuff. But I do also enjoy rides, it’s the lines that turn me off. Considering it was spring break and the park was fairly busy, we spent the first few hours just walking around looking for lines that weren’t too long. And also watching the Frozen characters at the Castle. I had to video Elsa singing to show the girls!

Not far into our day, it got windy and had started a light rain, so we went in line for The Haunted Mansion. By the time we got out, it was pouring! The park was nearly empty of, everyone having run for cover. It was actually a bit surreal. After the more intense part of it let up, people were fleeing the park. Good thing for us! We went and wandered the shops again to wait out the rain, picking up a couple souvenir tee shirts.

After the rain died down more (and unfortunately more people came) we went on Space Mountain, with an incredibly terrible long line, and that ride was awesome! I’d never been on an indoor dark roller coaster.

We took a little break and got the orange Dole Whip, which was delicious and much cheaper than I’d imagined it to be! I’ve seen copycat recipes over the years of “Disney worlds iconic dole whip!” So I had to see what the hype was about.

Then we did the Jungle Cruise and It’s A Small World. I’d like to add that the ride employees at the Jungle Cruise are scarier than airport security. “Stay behind the yellow line!” I literally had my toes over and she came right back, shaking her finger, “back behind the yellow line!” The guy behind me chuckles and says “I think she wants us behind the yellow line.”

We went and got another Starbucks, enjoyed some Mickey Mouse pretzels, and then did more wandering around. We settled on our last ride being Thunder Mountain Railroad and that line was the worst of all. It wound up and down, back and forth, it was ridiculous. In my opinion, it was not worth it. By the way, if you’ve been on the wild thing at Valley Fair, you’ll find the roller coasters at Disney World quite tame.

It was dark by the time we finally finished at Thunder Mountain Railroad and we went to gather round the castle for the Fireworks show. Now that was epic. By far my favorite part of Disney World! I’ll never see Fourth of July fireworks quite the same. It was so amazing. Something I do recommend everyone see at some point in life.

By the time we made it to the area to hop on the shuttle to get to the parking lot, it started down pouring again. Thank goodness it was after fireworks anyway! But we got absolutely drenched.

We walked over ten miles that day, and like I said, exhausting. But it was worth it! One day. All you really need. I would definitely like to bring the kids there someday though! When it’s not spring break and there isn’t acclimate weather. Again, just for one day.

  1. ahhh! Sounds like a fun but exhausting day!! I think it would be fun with or without kids. But there is something about the look in their eyes that makes it worth bringing them!
